Try Again

Hello Sixth Graders,

I am not posting new blog assignment this week becasue many of you need to go back to "Character Compare" and try again.  Read the prompt thoroughly before you respond.  Also, remember to respond to another person's comment and use proper grammar and punctuation.   I will rescore it once the work is more complete.  Good effort Alta, Zeke, and Amanda.  Your work is proficient.

Character:Percy Jackson

Book: Son of Neptune

Percy is a demigod; that mean one of his parents is a god and the other one is a mortal. One day Percy wakes up in the wilderness with no memory and clue who he is. I have a lot in common; he loves the water, because he is the son of the sea god.One other thing I have in common is his strength and courage to keep going, even know he does not know where he is going.I also would love to have the power control water like him. I would never want to wake up in the middle of nowhere, with no memory or clue who I am.

Character: Annabeth

Book: Percy Jackson & Heroes of Olympus Series

Annabeth is a demigod; the daughter of Athena. Annabeth is super brave, smart, and tough. She will never back down and always has a solution for things. She is the leader among her peers. She reminds me of Hermione because like Annabeth, Hermione is super smart, very brave, and never backs down. Annabeth and Hermione are alike because they both hang out with boys more than girls. If Hemione and Annabeth ever cross paths, I think they would become immediate friends and always be fighting to be the best.

Character: Hattie Owen
Book: A Corner of the Universe
Hattie Owen is a girl who loves her life in her parent's boarding house in a small town. When her mentally disabled uncle Adam's school shuts down, it turns her world upside down. However, Adam ends up expanding her corner of the universe in many ways.
I am like Hattie because I prefer to think about my small town life rather than the big world out there. She also gets annoyed when people tease her friends, such as Adam.
I am different from her because I am more shy than her around people I don't know.
All in all, I am very similar to Hattie Owen.

Character: Sabrina Grimm

Book: The Sisters Grimm

Sabrina Grimm is a girl that is moving from foster family to foster family, like I have moved to lots of different states. She is also an older sister that is always dragging her annoying, pestering younger sister. Her younger sister is always coming up crazy ideas. They have a grandmother( a lost relative) that makes delicious food. We are alike because of all those reasons. I am definitely like Sabrina Grimm.

Character: Prim
Book: THE HUNGER GAMES

Katniss is a brave, caring girl that lives in the future in a world called Panem, that consists of twelve districts. Anyway, Some things i like about her are; her courage, her crazy ability to some how survive, and her love for her family. Some things i dislike about her are; the way she kills animals without mercy, and her hostility to anyone she doesnt know. Some things i have in common with her are; her love for her family, her good aim, and her eyes and skin. If i could have some of her traits they would be; her hair, her ability to survive, and her courage. Some of her traits that i would NEVER want are; her hostility, her memories, and her ability to kill without mercy.

Character:Alex Rider
Book:Stormbreaker

Alex's uncle (Ian Rider) was a "banker" (spy) until he was murdered trying to escape a top secret enemy base. Alex discovers this but instead of being shot or taken into custody he is recruited for his uncle's unfineshed business.

Quintin said...

Zoe W your post says Character Prim not Katniss :-)

QUINTIN said...

OOPS this adds on to my first post.

I like Alex because he gets to be a spy at the age of 14. I don't dislike Alex yet because I'm about 150 pages into the book. Alex and I are similar because we both love adventure. Alex is different from me because he would risk his life to solve a mystery. I would like to have all the neat gadgets Alex has, but I would not like to have a dead uncle and have a risk of being killed by the same person who killed my uncle.

Book: The Molly Moon series

Character: Molly Moon

Hey everyone I read the Molly Moon series over the summer, and there is one character that really stands out. Her name is Molly.

Some things I really like about her is her since of adventure, how she ignores bullying, and her non-chalaunt way of living life at the orphanage. Some more traits I admire is that she teaches herself to hypnotize people into doing what she wants. Who wouldn't want to hypnotize your mom into giving you more snacks and chocolate, as Jackie may add.

Although there are some things that make me jealous of Molly, there are things that make me cringe just thinking of being in her shoes. She is punished and has to clean all the orphanage's toilets with her toothbrush when she filled her bathtub a couple inches too far. And waking up to be bullied every single day? That would be horrible.

Another thing that Molly faces is death. In almost every book, her life almost ends.

You guys should read it!!

P.S. Mrs. Howard please tell me in class if I missed anything Thanks!

Character:Jim

Book:Fire Thief

Jim is a very small child. He is underfed, and very skinny. He was an orphan who was doomed to a very hard, boring, underpaid fate until Mr. Slaughter adopted him. Mr. Slaughter didn't adopt him out of love though, he adopted him to make him a robber.

Some things I admire about Little Jim is his courage, bravery, and success. He is courageous because he would go into rich people's houses and rob them with the chance they could be caught and hanged. He is brave because he sacrificed his life multiple times for his friends. He is successful because he turned the most disgusting city on Earth into one of the best. I dislike his ability to steal things from people and not even feel sorry about it.

I am alike Jim in the way that we are both children. I am different from Jim in a way that he steals.

Something about Jim that I would like to have is his bravery. Growing up with an older brother teaches you something but I'm not nearly as brave as him.

Something I would not like to have that Jim has is his poorness and his lack of parents.

The Fire Thief is a really exiting and intense book! I hope you all read it!

Wow Jackie how long did you take to write that? You used really good ajectives. That sounds like a good book do you like it?

His lack of Parents. I like your word choice!

Renee, I love your beginning! Nice hook! (As Mrs. Howard would add :D )

Yeah I love it thanks Renee!

Hey Eva I Like how you compared two characters from two different books and said how they were alike and different and not yourself. I also like your word choice.

OOPS!!!! This is adding on to my first blog

We are different because she is much braver, and has lots more courage. Also Sabrina and her sister are being tortured in foster homes, until they find their long lost grandmother. We are alike because we are normally looking ahead in life. I am also like her because of our annoying sisters we are trying to contain. Also we both like solving mysteries. If got to have some of her traits I would LOVE to be as brave, kind and fun as she is. One thing I would not want about her life is how her parents are missing, the mystery of her life, and several FAIRYTALE relatives!!!!!!

Annika said...

Eva- your comment was awesome! I was going to write about Annabeth, but then I saw you had already written about her. I love how you compared Annabeth to other characters, along with yourself. You really showed how you are like both characters!!

One of the characters in my book (Hitch) is Moss Trawnley. Some things about Moss are he is caring, he is a leader, he is smart, and he is also very nice to everybody. Some ways that I am like moss are I am caring, a leader, and I am pretty smart. Something that I would want that I don't have that Moss does is to give back to the world by building resivoirs and helping citizens. Something that I wouldn't want that Moss has is to live in the 1940's. I wouldn't want to live in the 1940's because knowing that we have all sorts of cool electroncs now a days, although I would love to see what life was like then.

Annika said...

Zoe- I LOVE how you wrote about Katniss, and then used her traits to tie in with everything!!!!!!!! But your blog says you are going to write about Prim, then you write about Katniss.

Revised Comment part 2
Character: Annabeth
Book: Percy Jackson and The Heroes of Olympus Series

( Mrs. Howard this is the second part of my comment last night)

Annabeth is a daughter of Athena; the girlfriend of Percy Jackson. Annabeth is a smart, outgoing, and courages person. What I admire about her is attitude to never give up and her realization that not everything will always work out. I am like her because I am also smart and very outgoing. What I don't like about her as much is she would occasionally pick a fight. Technical difficulties I will finish later tonight. :)

Character: Alex Rider
Book Series: Alex Rider

Alex Rider's parents died when he was very young, so for most of his life, he lived with his uncle, Ian Rider. Alex was told that he was an overseas bank manager, which was why he was always traveling. Then one morning, the police showed up at his front door, bringing news that Ian had been killed in a car crash. Then Alex finds his uncle's car at a junkyard, and the driver side door was almost ripped in half with telltale signs of bullet holes. Alex later finds out that his uncle was one of the British Intelligence Agencies's (M16) best spies. Alex is drawn into the dangerous world of spying himself, and saves the world more than 6 times by age 14. I admire Alex for staying strong through all that he does, even though this includes getting shot twice, killing a man, escaping from a car 60 ft. under the surface of a lake (in winter), and many other things. There is nothing that I don't like about Alex. He is a very admirable person. I am like Alex because I like a good challenge, and never back down. I am not like him because he is good at everything he does, and seems to know what to do all the time, and sometimes I find myself without a clue. I would like to be like Alex because he gets many unique opportunities to do some really cool things that pretty much no one else gets. I would not like to be him because he is in so many situations that could get him killed.

Jimmy Colfer said...

Jackie- That book sounds really good. From what you said, Jim sounds like an admirable person. I also like his name.

Eva- Like Tanner said, I like how you compared her to another book character. I have read the same books and totally agree with you.

Book: Fablehaven, The Rise of the Evening Star/Book #2

Character: Kendra Sorensen

Kendra is one of the main characters in this series. She is the older sister to Seth. Besides being an older sibling she is also a timid yet brave person. Kendra can be scared of something but she'll brush off her fear and try to be brave. So far she has always succeeded. An example would be when she has to, with Warren, enter the tower that had been recently guarded by a demon,(I think that's what it was). Before entering Kendra was terrified at what might happen, but as they got further into the tower without fail, she seemed to become more confident. Earlier in the first book Kendra becomes Fairykind, meaning that she can do many things that fairies can, likesee in thedark and understand/speak many creatures' languages.
A few things I admire about Kendra are; one, her ability to speak and understand most languages of magical creatures; and two, she gets to stay on a preserve full of the creatures.
Something that I dislike about Kendra is that she doesn't seem like the kind of person to stand up for herself or for others. To me she seems like the kind of person that just likes to be "invisible" so she's a smaller target for bullies.
I don't think that there's many similarities between us except for the fact that I am also an older sibling. Although there are quite a few differences. One would be that she is vulnerable to danger when she's on and off Fablehaven property .
Something I would want is her way of exchanging fear for bravery. A feature of hers that I would never want is being relied on to always help save the day.

Personally I think that this series is awesome so far, and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet.

Zoe Stewart said...

Eva, I like how you didn't compare Annabeth to yourself. You compared her to another character in a different book. It really helped me realize that characters from completely different books can be similar too.

Revised Comment Part 3
Response to others

Jimmy- I like how you really made me want to read more about Alex. I think I will read it!

Annika- I like how you rally compared yourself to Sabrina and I totally agree you are like Sabrina. You guys could be twins! (with younger sisters of course)

Zoe S.- Having read the Fablehaven series myself, I totally agree with what you said about Kendra. I think you described her perfectly.

revision 1 of 1

Character: Percy Jackson

Book: Son of Neptune

percy has one godly parent [Neptune (aka Posidon)]
and one mortal parent. you may know him from the other sieries he is in(The Lightning Thief- Battle of Olypus or something like that).
Anyway, he woke up one day without a single memory exept for who he was... and his girlfriend, Annebeth.
I relate to him because i somtimes wonder if i am being tracked by something or not.
I envy him because he can control water and turn himself into a huricane.

I would'nt want to be him because he lost all of his memory. :(

Theo I loved how you covered everything that Mrs. Howard wanted us to cover and it was very oranized. I also liked how you talked about how your character lived in the 1940's (nobody talked about that) and how he helps other people by building resivoirs. Grat work!

Character: Hattie Owen
Book: A Corner of the Universe
Hattie Owen is a quiet 12 year old who lives in a small town called Millerton. When her mentally disabled uncle comes to live with her and she meets a girl at the carnival, her two new friends expand her corner of the universe in many ways.
What I like about her is that she is adaptable and is loyal to her friends. However, there is nothing I really dislike about her.
We are alike because we both are shy and both like to cook. We are different because she is more daring then I am.
If I could have something from her life, I would probably want to have her constant adventure of living in a boarding home. However, I would not want to have only two friends.

Zoe S. I really liked your comment. It was very descriptive about the characters.

Character: Queen Lucy
Book: Narnia Series

Queen Lucy is a gentle, caring, person in a family of 6, her brothers, Edmund, and Peter and her sister Susan. I like Lucy because she always comes up with a solution to problems and she makes friends with anyone. I dislike Queen Lucy very little, i don't like her because she always steps up o hings witch get her into trouble. I am always hoping she will be okay. I am like Lucy because I have siblings and I am most of the time calm and quiet. (most of the time) I am unlike Lucy in many ways. I don't get transported into a magical land, I am not very emotional, and I am not a Queen. I would like to be Lucy if she didn't have some of her quirks. I don't like her habit to back down if someone says she is wrong. Also, she needs to be the biggest and not be a coward. If I could get some of her characteristics, I would have her endurance, and her power over Narnia. A long with that, I would get her Fast Friend Making.

For Nicknames, I want to be Explanation Mark
