I am reading Nurture Shock. I shared the chapter about lieing the other day. There is a chapter on effort that really holds my interest. It promotes the research that states effort is far more important for success than innate ability. So far, I would rate this non-fiction book as an 8because even though it is non-fiction, the writer is entertaining and sometimes funny. I really like reading research - especially when it relates to learning and the brain.

A great series of books that I have read in the past-and am currently reading-is the Alex Rider series. It is perfect for anyone who loves spies, action, and evil rich guys who try to take over the world.

I am reading The Sitsterhood of the Traveling Pants. This book is about four girls that are best friends. They all leave somewhere for the summer and are trying to keep in touch. A day before they all had to go there seperate ways for the summer, they found a magical pair of pants that fits everyone of them even though they are all different. They each get a turn with these pants for a couple of weeks. So many unexpected things happen within the first week and it is goping to take a whole lot of getting used to for the girls.

I'm reading all the Narnia books. This week, I'm reading Price Caspian. This book deserves a 8 because once you know the characters you will feel like you are a part of the adventure. The book starts with a prince living with his evil aunt and uncle. He hears stories from his nurse about old narnia and she gets fired and then a dwarf-man comes and tells him even more about narnia and then his uncle wants to kill him......... too be continued

I am a Hunger Games maniac! I L0VE THEM!!! It is a fast paced book that will have you hanging on to the edge of your seat! This book is slow in the beginning but quickly picks up the pace. This book is about a girl named Katniss that is launched into the capital and forced to part take in the cruel Hunger games. It is a fight to the death on live TV. I would give this book a 9.99 due to the slow beginning. Best Book Ever!

If you have not read the Narnia series than you half to! It is Great and action filled fantasy. It has every thing a good book should have. There are six books, but they are fairly short. I would rate theme an nine on the scale.

The Red Pyramid series is one of the best book series in the world! It is action packed and filled with Egyptian gods! The second book, The Throne of Fire is my favorite. Sadie and Carter (the main characters) sail down a river and fight an evil god that will end the world, or save it. I would definitely recommend this book for any one who is interested in mythology.

Annika Fahrner said...

Oh, by the way, I rate the Red Pyramid a 9.5ish

Jimmy Colfer said...

I have also read the red pyramid it is really good. I want to read the second book

Annika said...

Alta-I also love The Lost Hero! I love Rick Riordan, I absolutely love his mythology theme!

Jimmy Colfer said...

Another good series is the 39 clues. they started making the books a long time ago, so i'm sure that many people have read them, but they are action packed and fun to read. an interesting fact is that they are all by different authors. after the 39 cules series ends, it turns into a different series with the same characters. i wonder if it will ever end.

Jimmy Colfer said...

I agree with Annika. rick riordan is awesome.

Annika Fahrner said...

Jimmy- you should totally get the second book, or I own it, you can borrow it.

Jimmy Colfer said...

a great book to read is tentacles by roland smith who is another great author the book really grabs you. Another series that i have found interesting is the keys to the kingdom series by garth nix. it is about another teenage hero who has to save the world (these kind of books seem to be popping up everywhere), although this one is more fantasy. also if you are in to sports check out mike lupica.

Jimmy Colfer said...

the artemis fowl series is-i bet you guessed it-about another teenager, this time a rich criminal mastermind, who is not striving to save the human race, but the fairies. but these are no ordinary fairies. they have technology that we have not even began to dream of. by the way annika, i plan on getting that book

Lana said...

I guess you have all read this but, Harry Potter? I have gotten pretty far in the series, I love it! If you haven't read it already, GO TO THE LIBRARY!

Hi! i have like two more AWESOME books that i just read. first of all i wannna recomend Dead end in norvelt. it is about this small town, alot like steamboat but in the 60s. so anyway, there is this boy and he acidently shoots a rifle so then he gets grounded for the summer. then his old lady neighboor calls and says that she needs him to help her write obits. (the history of recently dead people) and well ya you can see where that ends up.overall i would give it an 8ish. the second recomendation is a seires.i just finished them and they ROCK! so the first book is called the name of this book is a secret and once you read that one it tells you the title to the next one so hopefully i wont have to type all the titles. ok so this seires is about the secret, not just any secret, the secret. so there are these two orgainisations fighting over it, one good one bad. so then these three kids get adopted into the good orainization and are launched into some pretty epic adventures. i would rate these seires a 9ish.

Tanner- The Winnie Years are about as you can guess a girl named Winnie. Until the last book each chapter is another book in her life. It is kind of like a narrated diary of everything that happens.

I just finished reading the invention of hugo cabret. It was really good. It is about a boy named Hugo who lives in the train station. He desperately believes that a broken automaton that his father left him will save his life. Will it? This book has over 240 pictures and is really well written. I deffinately recomend it.

My latest reading on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is that Carmen, one of the four "sisters", went to her dad's for the summer. Her mom and dad got divorced. It turned out that her dad is getting remarried and didnt tell her until she got there. She freaked out on him. she is starting to open up to the othere kids though but she is still upset.

I am reading the best series ever! There's the Tiger's Curse, The Tiger's Journey and The Tiger's Voyage. It's an adventure romance series. I loved every single one! it's definetly a page turner. Read these books if you love excitment, suspense and romance!

Still Zoe W!! said...

annika- what type of book r u reading now?

Jimmy Colfer said...

Zoe-The Alex Rider series has nothing to do with dragons!! It is about a teenage spy who M16 (the british version of the CIA) uses to do all their dirty work for them. He does things like flying in airforce one with a guy who wants to launch all the U.S.'s nuclear missles. He saves the world multiple times, yet no one knows about it. I think that everyone should read it.

Zoe S. said...

Hi everybody. I forgot to mention that Smiley Face is me. I seriously think that Cinda Williams Chima is a really good author. Luke if you like books that are full of action and somewhat violent then you'll like this author. if you want to read one of her books i suggest you start with the warrior heir.
