Congratulations! You have completed reading The Hunger Games. Make sure you read to the last page before commenting this week. Write a minimum of nine sentences and give evidence from the book in your answer. Respond another person's comment at least once with quality feedback.

It has been stated that Katniss is brave, considerate, kind, intelligent, quick-witted, courageous, and very resourceful. Do you agree or disagree with the above statement? Give at least three examples from the book where Kitniss demonstrates or does not demonstrate any of the above character traits. Quote directly from the book at least once.

Read Part II, pages 133 - 345. Just like last week, respond with a minimum of five sentences to one of the following questions AND to another person's comment. Your responses should develop a thoughtful conversations.

1. The Hunger Games have been compared to" Roman Gladiator Matches/Duals to the Death." Use your background knowledge of Roman civilization to compare and contrast characteristics of the two.

2. Could The Hunger Games really happen? Consider the following aspects if society:

The title you chose for our class book is The Hunger Games. I know you are super excited to get reading, so I will distribute the books on Monday. Good readers always predict before and during reading. Based on the title and the conversations we have had in class, make some predictions.

What do you think might be some connections between the title and the book?
Think of elements of a narrative. Predict the setting, characters, point of view, and conflict.

Those of you who have already read the book, try to make intelligent predictions without giving away the excitement of the plot.

Characterization

Well, the votes are in and the book with the most votes is The Artemis Fowl series. Olivia is analyzing the data and will report to us on Wednesday which other books made it to the top. We also have your suggested titles to consider. So until the final book is chosen, we are going to consider CHARACTERIZATION.

Again, choose a colorful character from a book you have read. How did the author develop this character so you could get to know him or her well? Consider the following eight methods through which most authors characterize their people.. Name the title of your book, the author and the character. How does the author of the character you chose use these techniques? Help us get to know the character by describing him/her using at least four of the eight categories. Try to use some of the descriptive language used by the author.

Hello Awesome Sixth Graders!

In your blog this week, choose a character from a book you have read in the past few months. Describe the character. What do you admire and dislike about this person. Compare yourself to this character. How are you alike and how are you different? What about this person would you like for yourself and what would you never choose?

Once you have written your comment, respond to one of your classmate's comments.

One last thing, many of you have gotten fuel for reading ten hours. A few of you have even gassed-up twice! Good job readers!
